Choosing Wedding Dress Accessories
At #CCBB we often find the thought of accessorising your perfect and much loved wedding dress can be a little overwhelming. We wanted to share with you our guide to choosing your wedding dress accessories to make sure finding your perfect finishing touches is as fun as finding your wedding dress.
Start with the dress, if possible
If you can, we recommend focusing on finding your perfect wedding dress before you choose your accessories. The style and detail of your wedding dress may suit a certain style or type of wedding accessory- for example a boho gown can look incredible with floral accessories or a hair vine. However if you do have a must wear accessory bring it with you when looking for your dress to make sure they suit one another.
Be true to you
Accessories like your wedding dress show be a reflection of who you are. If you don’t feel comfortable wearing lots or large jewellery- don’t force yourself too on your wedding day. Similarly if your trademark style is large or lots of jewellery then why not choose dramatic pieces for your wedding day. Remember your accessories will always be part of your wedding day photos so choose what you love & have fun if you wish.
Begin as soon as you want too
There isn’t a time to early to begin choosing your wedding accessories after you have found your dress. With lots of options available leaving your selection until the last minute can make choosing accessories overwhelming. If you choose to have a bespoke piece made, this can also take a while to be created. It’s also useful to have your accessories for any hair or makeup trials to see the overall impact.
Colour for 2018 is huge in wedding dresses & accessories. If you can’t quite face a coloured wedding dress, why not add a splash of colour with your accessories. Whether you opt for a brightly coloured underskirt or metallic toned headdress there are lots of options. If you are looking to add just a pop of colour, why not opt for a floral crown or a statement coloured belt that you just use for the evening? As for the silver or gold question don’t feel you have to stick to the rules, metallics mixed in the right way can look gorgeous.
Now we know the last thing on your mind for your wedding day is comfort as such- however you don’t want to be suffering with an incredibly tight or uncomfortable headpiece or a bracelet that keeps catching your wedding dress on your special day. Take time when selecting your accessories and consider their weight and comfort when trying on the pieces.
Why not choose individual pieces for your favourite girls? A lovely option is to choose pieces with similar shaping & styles, with different elements to reflect the personalities and tastes of your maids. This stops the girls looking too catchy & your girls are more likely to wear them again.
Find pieces that make you feel special
Finally, your wedding day is all about creating fantastic memories. I love having things that remind me of our day- from the vintage earrings my husband lovingly picked and the lace capelet made from my Mum’s wedding dress to the incredible sparkly shoes that I now wear whenever I have the chance. Find the accessories that make you feel special, keep them as treasured memories and use them as future family heirlooms for future generations to adore as much as you.
